Post subject:  323f BA pre ford V's post ford - differences??

If you have seen or noticed any differences in the two types, please post them up here

To start with:

* Door cards - (pre ford have a storage compartment built it)
* Heater/fan instruments
* wing mirrors
* Rear reflector (pre ford has a harger hole for your key to fit in)
* ECU bracket - post Fords have a build in securtiy bracket which covers the ECU, its spot welded on!!
* Gear boxes - Pre fords run a "G" series box which has a stronger casing and better internals, it also has a lower gear ratio, better for performance. Its good for 300BHP (so i read) Post Fords run a "F" series box which is weaker and can only hold a max of 200BHP. common codes:G25M-R and F25M-R
* Drive shafts - Pre Fords have stronger shafts, (thicker) you can only use G series shafts with a G series gear box, you can not use G series shafts on a F series gear box, tho the hubs on the pre and post 323f's are the same.

Pre Fords have a push button on the boot lid and a nice leather look gear and break lever surround. No rub strips on the doors.

what year is yours Dan?

Is it 1996? As far as me and AndyM could work out from the EPC, ford started the changes in July/Aug 1995, though this was the starting date there was no way they could have designed and changed everything in one go, therefore it could have taken them upto 16 months to sort all the differences out? Hence some peoples rides having some pre and post changes?

I must admit I never found a G series gear box from a 1996 and alot of 95's ran F series boxes aswell.

I agree Shaggy, this was highlighted today when we were comapring cars at the Midlands October meet :D Stu has a P reg car, it has the old badges, and the same nice door bins as mine, BUT, it doesn't have the door puddle lights or the fade down interior lights?!?!?!?!?

Maybe because they manufactured the F's in two different places? That's my guess anyway

Post subject:

they changed the style of the cloth interior.
pre-fords have a plain pattern, post fords have the flowery one!

I think interior was an option - Hardnutz's is a nice plainish Black if I remember correctly.

Perhaps when Ford took over, they still had various amounts of the old pre-Ford parts, so they just carried on using them 'till they ran out ???

My Mum bought a brand new VW Jetta 1 1.3 from out the box, and it was only about a year later, when I was replacing the front brake pads, the we found out it had the Jetta 1 1.5 front calipers. I know, because I bought the 1.3 pads in advance and they didn't fit ...

Post subject:  post/pre ford

i worked at mazda for 14 years and ba were my era,
one thing we really noticed was quality of carpets, small but noticeable qualitychange, the ford era ones wore out where my 94 with no mats is still no wearing out
the drive train is indentical, minor trim changes (ford big wigs trying to cut back)
the 121 (fiesta) mazda dropped out off after 1 year and have shared no ford models since, tons of safety recalls
my theroy is this
ford cant build a good car so needed mazda ideas
1,early probe was a mx-6 floor pan-engine box etc
2.bongo is mazda built, freda is copied and rebadged with poor trim quality.
3.in nz and aussie 323 bf,626 gd and ge models are ford badged.

if we got political and listed ford engines and there weakness ie cvh smoking etc i would wear my fingers out haha

one last thing
mazda only had 1% off the import market so were limited to number of cars alowed into uk there had to pick models that were guarented to sell, hence we never had cosmo etc in our showrooms, but when ford bought into mazda 33% i believe, mazda importing numbers were increased slightly due to ford being a eu manufacterer

there u go a bit off useless information for ya

Post subject:  323 f bit of info

ok ill try to remember what i can but please allow for mistakes its late haha
ba was a pretty good seller but remember bad feedback about poor rear visiblity, mechanicaly 1.5 was a little under powered but was a brand new design of engine and has the cam very close together, think its the only engine with cams that close and runs chain and timing belt which is very unique,it was very reliable (as usual) but it was allowed to get low on water,ie rad damage tended to warp the block so rebore or new block needed, dont panic the ones i saw had melted the plug leads they were that hot haha
1.8 is bp code and came from 323 1.8 gt and modified for gtx/r slightly detuned for emmisions purposes (was put in mx-5 too),i believe it was cam timing so 89-94 gti cams shouls sort that out,but dont quote me on it,never tried it but often wondered??....pretty indestructable engine, ive had bg gtis at 180,000 miles and they were fine, tended to burn a bit of oil as got older but not smokey like cvh and the like.
2.0 v6 is a great engine used in mx-3 (smallest capacity v6 in production eva i belive and best handling front wheel drive car in its 1st and 2nd year) mx-6 and xedos 6 and 9 then redisgned cylinder heads in super charger miller (which also has variable compression ratio, not a lot of people know that) and 3.0 in mpvs etc,,also have seen 3.0 diesel which was in a range rover as replacement for dirty land rover engine...
again heard rumours of v6 throwing rods but have never seen one or had any of mine do it and i try not to let it get coked up....

there was a problem with a rattling which was a build up off carbon on the cylinder head which rattled like a noisey tappet, this occurred on different models with different engines but was most noticeable on v6 as they are normally so quite,
the recall was heads off and machine a small recess in the combustion chamber, this was done with a tool made by mazda which was lent to dealers as and when needed,it was a permanent fix and even tho lowered compression slightly had no difference on performance.
the other rattle heard from the cam area is the friction gear thats tensions the cam gears.this was normally done with the heads off for the above but is easy enough in situ
i have the mazda notes somewhere for doing this, havent done one for years but at at one time it was a weekly thing
remanising again lol

anyone remember the xedos 6 touring car?????

to get the weight as low as possible the engine was spun round and the o/s driveshaft ran inbetween the cylinder heads....... saw it in the flesh...very trick set up yup the sump was in ya face when open the bonnett dry sump set up obviously

ok fingers hurt now if i think off any more ill post it

cheers guys zoom zoom zoom
